I built a c & c cage for my guinea pigs and the one tip I have for you is to make it the same size as the table that will hold it (for support). If you don't have a table, then you'll have to use the floor as the one I made (two by three) is too flexible to stand alone. I suppose if I built shelving 'legs' for it to stand on, it could work, though...
The shelving units I purchased had two different-sized spacing between the bars. Make sure that the smaller spacing is used along the sides or anywhere they can push their bodies against. I thought I had the coroplast high enough to prevent any problems, but one year later the piggies are twice as big and when I come in with veggies, one of them sticks his whole head through the bars! And the coroplast comes up six inches there. I forgot to take into consideration the depth of the carefresh bedding I'd be using...
P.S. If the igloos are too big for the space, you can cut off the doorways and gain some space. It's better to use tunnels and chubes so they can run through (keep the perimeter clear) for exercise. They love to run laps!
