Why is my guinea pig purring AND shaking when we pet him?? Does this mean he's happy or upset?
We've had our guinea pig for just under 2 weeks... he hasn't really shown any signs of aggression. Maybe after 2 days of handling him he make the purring sound a couple of times when i pet him so i would stop. We cut his nails for the first time today and rewarded him with fresh parsley along with plenty of floor time. Could he be upset about the nail cutting or does that just mean he's happy? 5 minutes fter he did that I grabbed his bag of hay and he started "wheeking" happily. I'm confused

I just want to make sure because I don't want to make sure he's happy and we're not annoying him.

Also, we are getting him a male cage mate and he should be here within a week or so...

Please only serious answers
He's like vibrating, right? Mine did that, I googled and found out that he's probably just content.

I had mine, Steve, for a week before I got another one. The new one was smaller and Steve would just try to hump him and the new one would try to get away so they weren't really fighting for dominance at the time. You would have to test the 2 males together first and let them get to know each other. There are tons of sites that will tell you how to do so and if they don't get along, well then you have to either get rid of one or get another cage because I'm pretty sure they will fight to the death.

Good luck though, guinea pigs are awesome:)
Me.
The purring means hes happy. The shaking might mean hes still getting used to his surroundings. I would think hes happy mostly though
Guinea pigs purr to show pleasure, like cats. They shake because of excitement, not neccesarily frightened. He obviously likes you petting him if he's purring. That's a big sign that he's happy. Also, if its a boy, and you are getting another boy, that is a bad idea. With any animal species, except maybe dogs and cats, they won't get along too well. Rodents expecially tend to fight. Male hampsters expecially tend to fight. The only rodents that I know of that get along just fine are mice. Your Guinea is a happy guinea right now, but another boy might cause stress and problems.
it means he is happy and likes it and if it squeaks it means it is distressed and wishes you would stop or is annoyed and this isnt stupid they also purr when they mate.
