right now my rat koda is sleeping in his litter tray, ive just cleaned it out so there is no poo in it, but i dont want him lying in it when there is poo in it
Put a little bit of food in his bed.
I wouldn't sleep in my litter tray if there was food in my bed :).
Does he have another thing to sleep in like a hammock or something? Sometimes rats are funny like that. They pick one place to sleep and they don't care what we think about it.

i can't imagine he would go to sleep on poo. if this is the case, i suggest putting a ring of fire around it. that will deter him.

scare him when he goes in it to sleep he will learn this is wrong
rats can be odd like that. u can try moving the liter tray around after you clean it that way he will just give up in following it. ( my Rat did the same thing, so i tried that) it worked for me.
Put some rat posion in he's bowl.
As long as you clean his litter tray every day then don't stress. If your rat is happy then you should be too.
