What would be the right cage for a blue rat, female?
Ima gettig two female bllue rats at the end of this month, and i am geting al the stuff ready. i am haveing ots of problems finding the right cage. Help!
Since youre getting two, you will need a cage of at least 4 square feet, 2 square feet for each rat, this includes shelving :) Wire cages are much better (never put them in a tank, they are not well ventilated enough=respiratory problems) as they have great ventilation :D Any wire surfaces should be removed or covered so as to prevent injuries and sores :) Cage spacing should be no more that 1cm (for babies) and 2cms for adults :) This is my cage, a Marchioro FerretVille :) I love this brand :D The cages are great for rats :D

One this big runs about $440 Aus Dollar, but I got mine for $200 cos I worked at the pet store I bought it from :D

For people with only a two rats, I suggest the marchioro Kit Tom :)

Another popular cage is the ferret nation, though this is one of the more expensive choices;

Or you could just buy a large bird cage and put some shelves and hammocks in it :)
Depends what size they are. If they are large enough(head about 2x2in) you can just simply put them in a rabbit cage. If they are smaller then a big bird cage works just fine(bars about a half inch apart). Put a carpet square or bedding on the floor to keep sores off of their feet though. If they are still really little like as in mouse sized babies you can put them in an aquarium for now. Don't worry about it really, your rats won't care as long as it has room for them to do their daily deeds and keeps them in.

Well, 'the rat guy who knows all about rats'... lol

Since you are asking a simple question of 'how big of cage should I get', seems like you don't know everything about them.

First of all, the more space the better, but you should have at least a 3' by 1.5' for 2 females. Males usually need a little bit more space so they don't get cage aggression.
Remember: Bigger is better. Buy/make the biggest cage you can make for them. If possible, I recommend a c&c cage.

I hope that you will take good care of them.
