I bought a new mouse a few days ago and I'm a first time rodent owner. At first the mouse would squeak and run to the other side of the cage when I reached inside for anything. She's recently been making progress though. She's started climbing outside of the cage and onto my laptop and she walked into my hand about 3 times, but just for a second. Occasionally I reach in and carry her around the house with me, though she refuses to stay in one place in my hands. Instead she scurries rapidly all over my arms, shoulders, and back. I'm eager to have her tamed and I'm trying my best to be patient with her when I'm not taking her around the house with me (like just laying my land in the cage and letting her sniff and walk over it) but what's the best approach that some of you more experienced rodent owners can suggest? Do you think she's making rapid progress, if it's progress at all?
never go in and grab your mouse it will freak out because in the wild birds of prey would pick the mouse up like that. Does your mouse have a name ? If so say his/her name quietly as you open the cage door, put a nut of sum sort of treat on Your hand and let it scamper onto your hand and collect it. do this for about a week as many times as possible. when the week is over put a treat on your hand, let your mouse scamper onto it and slowly lift your hand up, once the mouse has eaten the treat slowly and gently stroke the mouse between the ears and down to the base of the tail. Your hamster will love this, then slowly and gently put him back in the cage. Each time you take him out of the cage take him out for a bit longer. Soon your hamster will be tame.

P.s your mouse is definetly making progress, dont let being a first time owner make you feel uneasy, i think you will do great !!!!
