Pet rat...vibrating for a second?
I bought a 3 month old male rat on sunday to be a buddy for my 2 month old rat (quarantined though. thirteen more days to go). This new rat, Biscuit, has been a little bit harder to gain trust with- he's shy and very vocal. But today we made a break through and we hung out for a long time and played and he explored. He even took a little nap on my shoulder and ground his teeth. No eating out of my hand yet, but close.
Anyway, so I was holding him cupped in my hands (I look at my rat's noses and listen to their breathing on a DAILY basis) and he started vibrating...like a shiver almost. It would last for a second and would happen for about every 3 seconds. I stopped as soon as I put him down. I picked him back up again and it didn't happen. Was he just nervous?
When my rats do this, they usually poop a minute or two later. I think he's just trying to get himself ready to poop or to let you know he is going to poop. It could be different for your rat though, as all animals are different and the vibration could be different.
Hello,
I am glad you are respecting proper quarantine behavior, sadly most people don't.
I have three female rats, and all of them vibrate.
A couple things are happening here (combination or just one),
they are cold, are you in a cold room?
they are happy, when they brux they can also boggle (vibrate their eyes) and sometimes this shivers their entire bodies.
They are scared.
Any of these are possibilities.
Mine (I like to think) do this because they are happy. Do not worry this is nothing to be afraid of.
Hope I helped..
P.S.
If a rat is vocal it is usually a good sign =)

Also P.S.S
You will have some trouble because (no offense at all here) you bought the wrong age of rat. You never want the new rat to be near the age of the rat who had the cage from the beginning. There will be fighting, and it may get to the point where you need to clip or separate the new one.

Hope I helped
well i, myself have 5 rats in ownership with my friend, they will vibrate or shake at times, i dont know why but if they make the chattering nois oftenly you should get then checked (maybe). this is because some one else i know had a few rats and they had a chattering problem which then later on caused in death. i suggest if that is your problem you should get a consultation. keep checking up on your family vet to see what the results are.
That's interesting... vibrating rats. Just don't put him in your pocket or else you might pick up your rat instead of your cellphone.
