Are Mantella frogs a good first frog?

my husband and i are looking to get 3 mantella frogs. we are wondering if they would be a good first timer frog. Also... what kind of substrate is best for they, what plants can be planted in their, and if you have any additional info that you think would be helpful for me that would be great.
