How to sterilize tree limbs?
Hello, I just recently started a terrarium with a green anole, and a fire belly frog. So I went shopping, bought a lot of stuff, but could not afford the tree limbs you would buy at a pet store. The price tag for these is really steep. They wanted $40 for a medium piece.I was walking my dog, and found some nice pieces of a tree that would go great in my tank, but am not sure how to sterilize them. I was told to bake them at 365 degrees, 1 minute for each inch. Does this sound right, or is there something I missed?
you can bake the limb for about 30 minutes at about 350. you could also spray or soak it in a diluted bleach solution (1 part bleach to 10 parts water) and then let it dry for several days. either of those will sterilize the tree limbs.

hmm baking them doesnt sound like such a good idea. It might catch on fire or char the wood. The best thing would be to wash the tree limbs in really hot water and let them dry on their own. That should kill all the germs and not affect your pets.
ive never herd this before but i think you r supposed to boil of freeze the limbs and they should be a ok for your frog and lizard
Oven treatment won't sterilize the limb but it will sanitize it, which is all you need.
