Hey, I just need some Bearded Dragon question(s) answered.

1) Do Bearded Dragons make good pets ?
2) Can I walk around my house with my Bearded Dragon sitting comfortably on my shoulder ?
3) Can I use a 40 Gallon tank/breeder to house two Bearded Dragons ?
4) What heat fixtures do I need ?
5) Do I have to have a UVA lighting fixture ?
6) What cage furniture and decoration would I need ?
7) Am I making a mistake by going for a Bearded Dragon instead of a Corn Snake ?

Any additional information would be a great help !

Best Answer = All questions answered and additional information.
1. yes
2. definitely
3. only one, never house 2 beardies together, 2 males will fight, 2 females one will become the more dominate one and stress out the other and male female, he will want to constantly breed before she is old enough thus more stress and ill health
4.Basking light to heat basking area to 100-110 degrees
5. yes very important
6. hide, basking log
7. In my opinion no, I have 5 and just love them all.
A really good place to learn is beardeddragon.org . Its a wonderful site with tons of great information. Oh and you are going to need lots and lots of crickets daily. Feed as many as he will eat in a 10-15 minute period. Plus a daily salad of greens and veggies. Weekly baths are great and so is misting daily.
Slave to 5 bearded dragons, 1 water dragon, 2 leopard geckos, 2 cats, and a Russian dwarf hamster
1 - yes as they can become very tame and definitely have personality
2 - yes once its tame and used to you
3 - You need at least an 80 gallon tank for two beardies (each beardie needs 4 sq ft of floor space). I assume you have a male and female? Two males will not live together.
4 - For heating you can use a variety of things eg spotlight, heatmats, ceramic heaters
5 - yes you need uva and more importantly uvb lighting of at least 5%
6 - hides, branches to climb, sand to dig in, plants
7 - In my opinion (as I'm lizard biased) beardies are a much better pet!

1) Yes, They are very active and show lots of Characteristics
2) Yes but just be aware that it may jump off, it's a living creature after all!
3) The bigger the better to house 2, my vivarium is 4ft X 2ft x 18inch and is adequate for 2
4) A high output spot bulb is the best, the basking area needs to be around 100f. avoid heat mats as the dragons don't feel head on the underside and could potentialy burn themselves. I do use one in the winter but I place it on the side of the Viv.
5) You need UVB, when you buy a reptile bulb it will contain levels of UVB and 5.0 is about right. The tubes do not give off heat so you will need a heat spot also unless you buy a Mercury Vapour Bulb which are expensive. Bulbs containing UVB must be replaced after 9 months as the UVB disipates.
6) I use large beech chips as a substrate so they don't swallow them, sand can cause impaction if swallowed. I have a branch they can climb to bask under and a few stones that they can also bask on. I have a digging tray with a mixture of soil and sand (sterile) as I breed my dragons and this creates an egg deposition site.
7) Cost wise a corn is better but for entertainment value a Beardy is better, it depends what you want. Baerdies are daytime creatures and are active throughout but Corns eat less but not as active.
