Hi, I have dwarf siberian hampster and I think she is sick...( for the second time) A little history... in the store she was the least active hampster, so I thought she would be a good cuddly one that wouldn't bite as much, as the co-worker told us. So i brought her home. A few days later she was completly un responsive and slept non stop, wouldnt even play in her ball. So i took her to the store and they took her to the vet and said she had wet tail and the beggining of a respiratory infection. When I got her back she seemed more active. So i thought she was fine. Recently, which it has only been 3 weeks since I got her back, she starting to breath really heavy, and the other day she was almost like gasping for air, her mouth kept opening and she made a motion like she was going to throw up! It was scary. So I was going to bring her to the vet the next day, but then she seemed fine the next day. So the day after that, she is breathing heavy again and i took her out to play and she is barly moving. She never plays at night, even when I first got her. Soooo any ideas? Does she seem just like a laid back hampster? or do you think she was jsut sick from the beginning?
She may be suffering from a significant pneumonia. These little guys can get pretty sick before they start showing signs. I would suggest a trip to a vet that commonly sees rodents, to see what is going on. Also, you might want to contact the petstore again, as I think this is most likely a continuation of the original illness.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Wet tail can be deadly for hampsters, as they tend to dehydrate. They nee antibiotic and rest. Please let the animal rest and don;t take it out if unneccesary. Does the hampstr still look wet/smelly? You need to check and I'd take it BACK TO THE STORE! yOU SHOULD NIOT HAVE AN ILL PET.
Good luck.............
Good luck.............
I would advise calling the vet. It is no cost to talk to a vet, it only costs to visit the vet. If the vet says that you should bring your hamster in, do so. The vet will PROBABLLY know how to fix the problem and prevent future problems. I would call the vet right away so nothing becomes worse!

You're either not taking care of her right or something happen to her at the store, just ask the vet to keep the hamster for a week to see what's worng with her.
