Well I am planning on showing my horse in halter soon but her mane is too long. I really dont want to pull it because im afraid it will be too thin. should i just trim it a little or should i leave it the way it is. Btw she is a registered APHA. here are some pics of it. so what do you think

There are some very cool plaits you can do wiht a long mane that look good, but it depends on the class; if it doesn't ask for plaiting I'd give it a good wash and brush (even sparkle hair spray if you like!) so it looks nice, I personally prefer a long healthy shiny mane to a short pulled/thinned one (when its unplaited it looks...nasty... in my opinion)
My personal favourites are...
The lattice/diamond/trellice plait. quite easy you should be able to figure it out from the pictures on this forum http://www.horsegroomingsupplies.com/hor...
Theres also the running plait; more difficult but looks really neat on a long maned horse http://www.newrider.com/forum/showthread... , I couldn't find a good tutorial but if you look at the pictures you can figure it out (I taught myself how to do all these plaits and normal "bobble" plaits + tail plaiting just from pictures) its basically like a french plait where you only add hair from one side if that makes sense?
Just don't forget about the forelock! its easy to forget it lol, just a neat plait looks fine really, it just completes the picture if you do something with it.
I love playing around with plaiting manes and tails its great fun! so have fun lol!
