What colors look good on sorrels and black/browns?
Okay so I have a sorrel mare and a black gelding that i'm showing this year. I dont want to blend in with the rest of the poeple. What colors would look good on them. I show western BTW!

Dont mind me talking or the wind blowing. My movie editor is not working. DONT Mind MY SISTER!
For the sorrel- Red with black...thats how I show my sorrel mare. It looks sharp but isnt that distracting too the judges.

For the black- something muted, he is a striking horse in himself, you don't want to take the judges attention from him with a sharply contrasting color!
personal experience
Umm I really dont want to be rude and maybe I am crazy cuz no one else mentioned it but your "sorrel" mare does not look sorrel. She is bay unless her mane and legs just appear black? Sorrels are a color of chestnut and have manes the same color as their coats or sometimes lighter. For a bay mare I would recommend hunter or navy or even like a deep purple. Bay horses don't clash with much. For black horses, I like using any color as long as it is a really bright shade because it just POPS. Like my old black horse always wore like a fire engine red nylon halter and it was gorgeous. Royal blue looks great too.
i would say for the sorrel go with either a tan and light pink or teal blouse and tan chaps, and to stand out get a really pretty design and possibly sparkles.
on the black gelding if you have quiet legs and enough money get an outfit made with colored chaps (red, blue, purple) and a matching shirt.
Good luck for the coming up show season :]
For your sorrel i think if you used nylon of something the Weaver's purple jazz or pink fusion. If ur going 2 use leather then proably a light leather with a toutch of turquoise, or purple.
For ur black, nylon, pastel blue, pastel green, or hurricane blue. Leather, dark leather with a touch of red or blue.
Hope that helps! :)
Here is a link to the Hobby Horse site. They actually have a chart to help with this.

pink, you can find it almost anywhere.
I show western and english. I hate when western rider wear the tacky bright colors, looks like they are in a parade. Judges don't like it either, it does not make them look at you more believe me! I have found that light oil or cherry leather looks best on the black horse, it stands out, in a nice clean way. I like wearing earth tone colors, tans, creams, with black accents. I will wear a light shade of pink now and then mixed with either black or brown. I always wear chaps, pants and hat the same color. With a Bay or Sorrel I think black leather looks best. As far as your clothing keep it neat and if you want to use a color use as an accent, like a slinky under a jacket. Don't go in the ring like you are entering a parade! Look sleek clean and professional! Good Luck!
