i havent seen your horses? can you post pictures of your stallion and mares. then i could maybe answer some. how many foals has your stallion sired? are you selling them or keeping them? is your stallion reg? are your mares?
your barrel racer is gorgeous, great turn i must say! but as for your broodmares? IMO, i dont really see great confirmation?? i see alot of flaws, especially if you are using them for breeding. you should get some better broodmares, as i said though, that is just IMO! not trying to put you down, its just what i think and what i can see from the pictures. zan me boon doesnt really catch my eye either sorry.

thumbs down? wow you ppl are critics. i just asked to see pix so i could determine IMO if this person is a byb? b/c most ppl just breed studs and mares for a profit, regardless if they are not registered and have bad confirmation? sheesh.
I didn't see your other questions, but don't take it personally - it seems that the people on YA are overwhelmingly against "backyard breeding", which includes anyone not breeding perfect examples of their breeds with show records. Personally, I stay away from those types of questions, and I don't take sides.
Honey, alot of people on here think that they know EVERYTHING... you do NOT have to have the best of everything to be considered a good breeder..... My advice to you, is to stop asking questions on here b/c for almost EVERY question that you ask, there will be TONS of rude, know-it-all answers.... People like being rude on here.... Just do NOT take anything to heart and IGNORE IDIOTS...... Hope i've helped to make you feel a little bit better.... remember.... do not listen to anyone !!! Good Luck !

Not being a participant to any of your questions at all, you should post another picture of your horse.
Furthermore, to you it shouldn't matter whether or not people consider you a backyard breeder. If you believe that your horses are in good condition and are receiving good homes, then you should not care what these people say. The important part is to delve deeply into your own soul and look into what you are breeding. First off, I have no idea what breed of horse you are breeding, but a responsible breeder, to me, do not just breed mass amounts of horses without homes for them.
Either you have VERY HIGH quality horses, like the stable I'm attempting to get a job at (with a million dollar stallion as well as VERY prestigeous dams -- all arabians), and you produce a decent amount of VERY nice horses that all sell for a fairly good profit or...
You do not necessarily have these top champions, but all of the horses that you breed have had homes already requested for them, or you keep them until they find a GOOD home. If you breed too many horses that you cannot sell them to good homes, and give them good care -- you are not a responsible breeder. If you sell your horses in a mass horse auction and get a mediocre price for them, you are IRRESPONSIBLE and you are hurting the mass population of horses by assisting overbreeding (which decreases the value of horses and jeopordizes their future lives).
Either way, look into your own soul and evaluate how truly responsible of a breeder you are.

11 years horse owner/breeder; common sense
There are many things wrong with your statements:
1. "I only breed to horses that are good conformation and are going to be something."
Good conformation in who's opinion? Yours? Do you really think you can be objective about your own horse? How many halter points does your stallion have? Oh that's right - zero. See Rosie's answer here:
The only thing those foals are going to be is meat. But apparently, that is okay with you.
2. "i have received hate and threat mail from some of y'all"
Only because you sent out hateful and threatenind e-mails first.
3. 'i am a nice person and i love my horses and my "mediocre stallion" but to me he's not a bad horse"
Nice people usually don't sent out hate mail. No one is arguing that you love your horse since you clearly do. No one has said that he is a bad horse. What people have said is that he is not breeding material. He might be a great horse - that does not mean he is breeding material.
4. 'that horse is the only thing my grandpa ever gave us and it was his wish that he die a stallion'
If that's the only thing your grandpa ever gave you, I am sorry. That speaks very badly about his relationship with you. However, clearly your grandfather also did not have an appriciation of all the reasons why this horse is not breeding material.
5. 'my fences are being redone'
That's great.
6. 'i would just like to know why you guys are so hard on me'
Because you posted questions asking for feedback and advice, and when people answered honestly and politely, you started threatening and harassing them.
7. Yes. You photos were reposted by Presto here and show your thin and poorly kept horses.
8. 'i do agree with you that some of the well a lot of the paints have flaws but then again i am in a partner ship with my aunt she picks them and i pay half sometimes her choices are bad some are good'
People with quality studs do not stand them to substandard mares. Putting substandard foals on the ground only ruins the reputation of the stud. This only illistrates another reason why you and your aunt apparently need to learn a lot more before embarking on a breeding business.

You have GOT to be kidding me. You know as well I do that YOU are the one who sends other people "hate mail" for politely dissenting from your opinion of your stud's awesummness and for offering an honest conformation critique, which is what you had asked for in the first place. You sent me some and you sent several other people some, too, which account for the reactions in your old question:
You ARE a backyard breeder. You are standing a (mediocre at best) Quarter Horse stallion and YOU HAD TO ASK PEOPLE ON HERE WHAT HYPP IS!
The most revolting thing I find about your question is not your ignorance or your false accusations. It's the fact that you're making excuses. "Ohhh my aunt is my business partner and sometimes she doesn't pick good mares to breed my stud to." Well gee, Zan Me Boon, maybe the Mexican Slaughterhouse Gods will see that you're reeeeally soooory for producing junk and will have mercy on those future foals' souls.
Yeah, right!

Yeah, right!
A BYB is a person who breeds horses or any animals with out proving the animals being used in some way in regards to the result of the foal. If you are breeding just b/c you want a foal regardless, then you are a BYB. If you are breeding with no regard to the result of the cross then you are a BYB. Does not matter if you are making money or not. Too many people breed just b/c they can. Breeding is an art form. The animals being used should be proven in some way for what you want the foal for. Breeding for a trail horse is not a reason to breed. Breeding b/c you want a part of your mare is not a reason. There are many many nice horses out there that will fit the bill for a pleasure trail horse or a good horse for your enjoyment. NOT to be confused with a competitive trail horse or endurance horse.
When you breed you SHOULD be able to make money on the resulting foal. You should not be able to go out and buy the same caliber of foal for less then what you have in stud fees and breeding expenses. If you are not making money with the resulting foal then you are not using the best breeding animal you can or you have made a bad decision for that cross.
Just b/c you may only breed one mare every few years does not automatically make you a BYB. The choice of the mare and stallion used is what make a BYB.
If your mare and stallion are proven in some way have good pedigrees and you can make money selling them then it should not matter to anyone.
Also I have proven before that on here when you post pictures that 99% of the people here can not tell you if the horse is any good or not. So do not worry about it.

15 years of breeding.
Your new stallion has great presence, he looks great ! . I read all the answers before I looked at your pics and was expecting to see a load of poorly put together old nags, they are SO NOT !......
My mare has the worst conformation in the world, longest cannon bones, extreme sloping pasterns , vertical shoulder, herring gutted and roach backed. She had bred a foal when I got her and was an excellent mum, I would love breed from her, as she has the nicest temperament of all the horses I have ever had...but I won't as that's not the right reason !
Just get on doing what you love, with the horses you adore and ignore people who run you down, life's too short to let them bother you !!
Have fun, ENJOY :o)

Sorry to hear that you are being harrassed, but to tell you the truth you are a BYB. With the way that the economy is right now, nobody should be breeding unless the foals are guaranteed to sell to good homes where they can have a job. someone said "it seems that the people on YA are overwhelmingly against "backyard breeding", which includes anyone not breeding perfect examples of their breeds with show records." Well as far as I am concerned, the only horses that need to be bred right now are horses with show records and exemplary conformation. It's not that I'm a snob and only like warmbloods (my horse is an polo pony that I retrained to jump), its just that there are too many mediocre horses out on the market right now. I'm not trying to be mean, I just want to explain my point of view so you know why people may be against what you are doing. I always say that the worst thing a horse person can have is a stallion because they believe that their stallion is the best and they just want to keep making more of him. If you would not pay to have the mares bred by a reputable stallion, then you know that they are not breeding quality. If you are just breeding them because you have a stallion and want to make some extra cash, then you deffinitely should not be breeding. Maybe you could get into another industry like training horses instead of breeding. Just a suggestion. I understand your situation with your aunt, so maybe you can show her that if she buys high quality horses (they don't necessarily have to be show horses, just good conformation) then you AND her will be able to make more money. It's a sad fact, but for uneducated people, money talks more than ethics and logic. And I know what I am saying is harsh, and I don't mean to say that you are stupid, I am just saying that maybe you and your aunt should buy a few books about conformation so you can make better choices in the future. Once again I am really really sorry that this sounds mean, I swear I am trying to help you! Good luck!
Edit--- I just read Snoops answer and he/she is correct. I completely agree!

My guess is that it is just so tiring to hear over and over again about people who want to breed and who don't have the means or even want to keep the foal for the rest of its life (if that's not you, then I'm happy to hear you're not part of the global problem)....
I think the hate is geared toward those who breed because they just want to pimp their horses (breed and sell anything), or because they think that having a foal is going to be some magical experience (ends up to be a nightmare because of lack of horse knowledge), or because they think they have the prettiest horse in the world....That is all okay reasons to breed....IF the breeder would KEEP the foals.
but a lot of these same people keep DUMPING more horses into an already saturated market which end up at the auction and at the feedlot and in trucks headed to Mexico to get their spines severed.
Have you been to craiglist?
Clinton Anderson bought a $28,000 stallion. And he gelded him. Why? Because he said this stallion wasn't the best in the world and there are already way too many horses that are better and available out there.
People who breed AND SELL anything just to make some $$ (you know there are awesome papered mares and stallions at the feedlot waiting to be stuffed into slaughter bound trucks right now all over the U.S?)....... are the problem.
So, maybe that's why you are getting so much crap from people. Because maybe they think that you are going to end up doing the same....breeding and somewhere along the line...dumping.
If you're not....and you're going to keep the foals forever and ever and the mare and the stallion forever and ever...hey, that's cool.
But too many people aren't like that and those are the ones that make the problem impossible to fix.
