today, for the first time after leasing a horse for 8 months, my dad watched me ride him!
my mom was there too and they were watching me tack up and then the owner of the barn was telling them about all of these more advanced barns to switch to and other horses to lease.
then she told my parents the best thing to do is buy. my mom started asking questions about board and vet and farrier bills.
my mom talked to my dad and was like oh! this only costs $$ for whatever
it really seemed like she was about to tell me i could get a horse, but they always tell me i wont get one, or at least, "Not in their lifetime"
do you think my mom was just curious?
she seemed excited and interested...

At the moment I think she is just curious. My parents did the same thing and guess what! Two months later I had a horse! I am not promising anything but curiosity is definitely a good sign.
Good Luck?
Good Luck?
I'm sure your mom is interested and curious as to where their money is going, but doesn't want to get your hopes up in case something happens that they can't get you a horse.
Horses are a lot easier to buy than they are to sell, and that often becomes a burden for parents, once their child out grows their horse and is looking of a new horse or you happen to become disinterested in horses all together (it happens).

My parents told me that too, and when I moved out on my own I bought myself my first horse. Before that I had always just taken lessons and leased horses.
Maybe if you got a part-time job and could pay part of the board they would consider it more? That would show you are really serious about it :)
Good luck

My father told me the same thing when I was little. 10 years later I bought my own xD lol. He's still alive and kicking (-me in the butt). Just wait a little while. Their minds might change. There are some decent horses for under a thousand, You just have to look for them. and hard. My Fla.Cracker kind of found me.. and she was under a thousand, so i snatched her up hehe :]
good luck on your quest.
