I noticed this yesterday and do not know what this is. It is about 1" long. We have snails but got 2 clown loaches to control the problem. We also have 3peppers, a plec, rainbow shark, 5 guppies, 3 minnows, 2 zebra danios and roughly 10 neons/cardinals (190ltr tank). Will the insect cause harm to the fish if we cannot get it out?
i shouldn't see it becoming a problem it has prob came out of the gravel or rocks in the tank, it is properly a creature that cleans the tank it sound like it i just dnt know what it looks like to explain to you what it does and if it will become a threat. if you are concerned go to an aquarium and explain to the assistant he/she will be able to explain what it is and if it is dangerous to your other creatures. my sister has a aquarium and put sea horses in it, over a few months she was discovering all sorts of random creatures in the tank that helped matain the surrounding. non of them apposed a threat to the other creatures.

I'd need a picture to tell you what it is. The only thing I can think of that is stick-like offhand is a water scorpion. These can be dangerous to fish. Look up water scorpion, and see if that matches what you have. Most aquatic insects are predators, so even if it's not a water scorpion, I wouldn't trust it.
