Cold water fish help?
Just bought a small fish aquarium and it has a filter and pump, but no heat or light source.
What are the best kinds of fish to keep in this kind of tank, i don't want the extra expense of buying heater and light.
The light does not cost as much as you think?
try a goldfish :)

i've had my goldfish in a tank with just a filter for a couple of years now... then again I live in Southern California so the temp stays pretty even throughout the year.
How big is this tank exactly? If you don't want to fork out on a heater then all I can suggest are White cloud mountain minnows, forget Goldfish as these grow very large and the common varieties ideally need a pond. Aquarium heaters aren't expensive and what is a relatively small investment will open up your choices. There are many small tropical fish which are perfect for 'nano' aquariums.

Lighting is purely for aesthetic reasons unless you intend to keep live plants, in which case an artificial light will be needed. What ever you do don't leave the tank exposed to natural sunlight, as this will result in algae blooms.
