i have 4 goldfish in a 8ish gallon tank and i can see things floating around

I don't necessarily believe that your tank is too small, however it depends on the size of the fish also i guess. I used to have my 4 gold fish in a tank around that size for 2 years until i upgraded to a larger one and they were fine and have been going on 4 years now :)
I think you will find though that the tank is getting so dirty because of the size and the amount of waste the fish are producing. The tube like thing coming from their belly your talking about... that's their poo. lol. Have you been feeding them any more than usual? or made any other changes to whats in the tank (rocks, plants, etc) also maybe check your pumps and filter to see if they are all still working ok.
The best thing to do is clean the tank as regularly as you can and if its an option perhaps get a bigger tank, it will look much nicer, stay alot cleaner and your fish will thank you for it by growing in size, the bigger the tank the bigger the fish get :)

You need to perform multiple weekly water changes until you can rehome/return some fish or buy a much larger aquarium.
What type of goldfish?
~4 fancy goldfish require no less than 50 gallons.
~4 common goldfish require no less than 115 gallon. For this reason they are usually kept as pond fish. They aren't exactly practical for an aquarium.
~15 is barely any better. It is still far below the minimum.

Your Goldfish are COMPLETELY cramped. I hope you realize that you are killing your fish. If you have Fancy Goldfish, they need at least 15-20 gallons of filtered water EACH, and if you have common Goldfish, they need more than double. You can keep NO Goldfish in that tiny tank.
Since Goldfish produce a large amount of ammonia, your filter cannot keep up with it, so they are basically swimming in their own waste, which is killing them.
I suggest you do some research and come back when you have some intelligent questions to ask.

wow. way too much fish in that tank. goldfish are the messiest fish around. ONE fish would have trouble living in that size. it is messy becuase your filter cannot handle that many goldfish
your tank is so dirty because u have way to many in the tank if u absolutly had to you could put one in there but thats not even enough space for one goldfish do u have a filter?
