Check your yeast : water : sugar ratio against what recommended here in "Guidelines for Mixtures and Capacities". http://www.qsl.net/w2wdx/aquaria/diyco2.... or this page. http://www.flippersandfins.net/co2system...
You have too little sugar and too much yeast for the amount of water you're using. Decrease both the water and the yeast and the sugar will last longer.

You do not mention the style and type of reactor. But I will give you some generic pointers.
1) Make sure the yeast is not expired. You have already verified its in a sealed jar - good. Use 1/2 teaspoon for this size vessel, the yeast will multiply and grow.
2) Yeast organisms are hungry. 3/4 cup of sugar is not a lot for the big party the yeast will start up. I would go with 1 & 3/4 cups of sugar.
3) Add baking soda - 1 teaspoon of baking soda to help balance pH.
4) The water. The critical part. Here is where we have to talk ratios a bit. I am assuming you have a 2 litter soda bottle size reactor. You mention 6-7 cups. That equates to 1.6 liters if you are using measuring cups. If you are using other size cups I have no reference to size of vessel.
Here is the ration that works best for me:
2 cups of water (16 ounces of water)
1/2 teaspoon of yeast
1 & 3/4 cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of baking soda.
Double all if your container is larger.
This should last for 10 to 14 days with good activity and up to 30 days with moderate activity.
