He is 7 months old a part pit part lab mix. He has pooped in the house the last 3 days and he just pooped in the house again. Instead of telling me he has to go out side he just does it in the house. I know he is probably off his schedule a little bit because my dad usually takes him out in the morning and I take him on walks every other day or so and he poops then, but what I don't get is why he doesn't let me know he has to go before he just poops in the house. I have never hit him for obedience but I heard you have to, so the last 2 days I have been swatting him on the but,no pun intended, but this doesn't seem to be making much of a difference he's still pooping in the house. Any help would be much appreciated.

It's your job to teach the dog to go out, many dogs don't have the natural instinct to "tell" you. If he's used to a schedule then the best way to prevent accidents is to return him to the schedule. Praise him when you goes appropriate places and make sure he gets out for at least 15 minutes every four hours. Swatting him after the fact will not teach him not to go in the house only to hide from you if he does. He probably is giving signs he needs to go, only you don't recognize them as such (acting anxious, whining, pacing or searching behavior). The dog is trained it sounds like especially if he wasn't having accidents while your dad was home, you need the training now.
