Does anyone know of a dog expert/psychologist in the Eastern PA/Western NJ area. I live in the Allentown, PA area so anyone within a 2 hour radius would even work. My dog has severe separation anxiety and it's ruining our life. We love our dog but are desperate to help him. We've already consulting a trainer and several vets and they don't know what else to try. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Karen Overall doesn't take many patients these days, but is tops in dog behavior and works out of UPENN vet school/hospital. UPENN also does consults for vets interested in meds for their patients, and SA is a condition that generally is responsive to meds + behavior mod, not responsive without meds. Have hour vet contact UPENN.
I would try contacting local colleges or universities to see if there are any animal behavior instructors/researchers that will help you. I almost had to take my dog to Purdue University here for his separation anxiety. You could try U Penn or Tufts U. (I don't know if that is close or not, lol) You could even contact those schools to see if they know who you can go to if they don't have anyone there. I hope that gives you some options. I know how bad it is to have a dog with severe separation anxiety. :( Good luck
http://www.inch.com/~dogs/separationanxi... this web site might help. It is a really hard problem to cure and takes and extreme amount of persistence and a love for your animal to get it done. It's not a quick fix problem by any means as you seem to have found out. I wish you the very best on this problem. No kidding aside you might try calling Cesar Millan. Never know?
