So today I had to get my dogs canine tooth extracted. After he is fully healed from todays trauma I will begin looking to take him to a vet to get a titanium rod tooth implant. My vet said that he guesses it will be around 10k but is not sure. He has seen it done but has not done it himself. Anyone know the average cost for this procedure and where to go to get it done?
I looked into getting this procedure done for my dogs. They have several missing teeth and I was quoted $70,000 to $80,000 by the U of M Vet Department. Remember, that is for several teeth.
I can not afford that and my vet reassured me that domestic dogs do just fine even if they have no teeth at all. However, wild or stray dogs would not last long. My dogs are doing very well and they both are missing at least 1/2 of their teeth. But I also know how upsetting it is when they don't have a full set of chompers.

I agree with the above answers: no need for a tooth implant. My boyfriend's dog is missing about half his teeth, and still eats just fine. And not just dog kibble, he crunches through a chicken foot faster than my smaller papillon which has all his teeth!

I wouldn't bother. Dogs do just fine if they are missing a few teeth.
