My friend's dog barks and growls at me every time I visit him because he's very territorial and thinks that I'm an intruder. How do I at least get the dog used to me or try to convince him that I'm not an intruder.
The best thing to do is to totally ignore the dog. Don't speak to it or even look at it. Turn your back on him to show him that as far as you are concerned, he doesn't exist.
He will eventually get curious about why you are not paying him any attention and will probably come up to you. I would ignore him when he does this too, until he allows you to visit without trying to intimidate you.

Let the dog smell you for a while put your hand out to its nose, but not to close, and let it smell you. Be as calm as you can, do not make any fast movements for this might scare the dog and be more frightened. You need to keep the dog as calm as it will be. And make sure it does not jump on you because if it is a big one it could severely hurt you. I don't know how tall you are or how big the dog is but make sure you do not frighten it.

this will be hard . but you can throw treats for the dogs,
muzzle the dog. and show your not afraid. walk past him calling his name in a gentle tone . even touch him. , but beware dog on chains. back yards, can be dangerous. as they will kill to defend there home space .... or ask your friend to walk the dog. on a leash. then past the leash to you half way thu the walk ..... this wont be easy. and i recommend a muzzle at first

Dont give treats. And while your friend pets the dog you pet it as well that way he wont really notice you. eventually he will accept you. Also talk to him like your excited and try to get his tail to shake like crazy! Say things like good puppy! And thats a good boy! But say it like your really excited.
You can give him treats and stay away from the dog for a while and maybe it might change its mind.
Take some treats, and every time you go over to your friend's house, toss him a few treats.
with your friends help try getting slowly aquainted on neutral
territory such as a park or your residence.

It takes lots of patience and rewards so give the dog some treats when you next see it x
