Do you keep your dog in your fenced back yard or in a pen?
If so, has he/she ever escaped? jumped the fence? or dug their way out? What about stolen?
Just wondering what the statistics might be.

Both my dogs have escaped my yard. The Husky mix dug out under the fence once and when to the neighbor's house to play with their dogs. My Basenji / Schnauzer mix has escaped twice, both times through holes the Husky mix dug. The first time she was out for maybe 5 secs and my neighbor saw her and brought her home. The next time she escaped my fence, escaped the neighbors' fence and killed a rabbit in 5 minutes. I got tired of them getting out so I had a concrete wall put in around the bottom of the entire fence. It goes 4 in under the ground, 4 in above the ground and is 4 in thick. They haven't escaped since. They're only outside to play and potty, not all the time. I keep the gate pad locked from the inside so no one could steal them.
Yea my dog escapes the yard quite often always with me in tow- She knows not to leave the fence unless I give her permission to follow (be it on leash or off).
My dog is supervised outside and often my fenced in yard is the play ground. No need to worry about fence jumping, digging, or theft as I am there to watch. If I'm not outside with her she's coming in with me (Being an Aussie she doesn't like me to be out of her sight anyways, I love my velcro breed).

Our current dog is never outside without either a leash or while under supervision. I learned my lesson. Every dog I've ever owned (family dogs while growing up and then my own dogs) that was allowed to be outside by itself has escaped at one point or another. My dog that I had when I was in high school and into the first several years of my marriage was an expert at escaping. By the time you shut the back door and walked to the front door, he'd be sitting on the front step waiting for you to open the door. He was FAST! He always dug holes or just simply squeezed through gaps. There wasn't a fence that could keep him in.
i have 2 mini-jacks and a pit bull. one of my jacks (Punkin) has "escaped" under the fence one time (i am alway outside with them, they are never ever outside alone...) she found a tiny opening she squeezed thru when we first moved in. she never did that before, but i guess the neighbor got a new puppy (she LOVES little pups) and she wanted to play. now she is on lockdown, (LOL i mean she is always where i can see her)
but it was funny when my fiance' who is giant went next door to get my little dog and they asked her name, and in a tough guy voice he said "Punkin". haha.
it has not happened again, we put a big rock where she got out.

Yes, I have a shiba which are well known escape artists. I can't leave him outside alone for even one minute cuz he can dig under the fence in less time than that thru the smallest hole I have ever seen for a dog his size. Lucky I always saw him going under the fence & jump in the car & get him right away. Shibas won't come when called since their prey drive is so high, they just want to hunt & investigate. None of my other 6 dogs have tried to escape the yard.
adopted 7 dogs
I don't keep my dogs outside, but sometimes I let them have access to the fenced in portion (from the sliding glass door in the dining room) or - I used to! It is a 6 foot high chain link fence, so I figured it was secure. BUT- he heard thunder, jumped onto the trash can, from there onto the shed, and then down and out, to meet me in the front where I was packing up the car. Hi Mom, I don't like thunder!
Well my pom is a PITA he can climb a chain link fence in seconds and has found a loose board in our wooden fence once.
My previous pom was stolen out of my moms backyard. I never saw him again :-(
My other 2 dogs have never gotten out of my yard.
ADD: OOPs I did not understand the question...sorry... My dogs are indoor dogs but are let out to go to the bathroom in a fenced in yard. Please ignore my answer.

my weiner dog escaped once and it was the worst 3 hours of my entire life. my neighbors were awesome and helped me look. he dug out of the backyard and came back the same way. ever since that i always keep my eye on him when he is outside playing. my yorkie and my lab never even try to run away.
as for stolen, Lord help anyone who would try that with one of my boys.
ADD - oh, and our backyard is fenced, with railroad ties surrounding the base to discourage any digging! :)

I don't "keep" my dogs outside. They are members of my family, not something to throw some kibbles at out back.
Thumbs down for taking care of my dogs and NOT letting them jump fences, escape or get stolen. I always thought you were suppose to take care and know where your dog was, guess I was wrong

My dogs are indoor dogs, but they have escaped a couple of times.
My last dog escaped a couple of times. The first time, someone left the gate unlatched and he crossed the street and began walking to the park(on the sidewalk of course...safety first). The second time, my brother brought him outside to hang out on the front lawn. I walked outside and asked where he was and my stupid brother wasn't watching him and he ran down the street. He was just around the corner playing with some kids, but it sure scared me.
Our current dog is a rescue dog because he escaped his yard twice. He ended up knocking over a child and scratched them when he went to push off. The owners couldn't get a dog license or house insurance because of this, so they had to re-home him. Lucky us!! He has broken off of a cheap petsmart leash, but since getting him a proper leash, he's been great.

Yes one of my dogs escape on a regular basis....
She is kept in a fenced yard, but as soon as myself or my partner leave the yard on foot she "will" get out no matter what!
It is not a big problem for where we live and the fact that she doesn't go far.

I have a fenced in backyard. My Bichon Frise has never been stolen, or tried to escaped. he just goes in the back yard to pee, poo, and sniff.
My dogs have gotten out a few times when the neighbor kids open the gate. They go out the gate, around the house and onto the front porch.
We usually go outside with our dog, she likes the company. If left unattended she will dig under the fence and visit the deer while we coax her back into the house.
Yeah my dog gets out of her gate sometimes but we dont esactly no how she does. But she come right abck after about an hour but i still go look for her :-)
mine did when i left it open but a neighbor captured them and returned them to me.
if the yard or fences are in poor shapes then the statistics would be very high.
I have 4 dogs, both indoor and outdoor dogs. And so far, no escapes.
my dogs have gotten away a few times, only because the gate was left or was blown open.
As per RR. But I suspect many locals lost their pups to roaming eagles :)
I had an Afghan Hound escape my yard and someone stole her. She was only a puppy too. I cried.
