I was just wondering... I have rabbits so I don't need to worry about buying them meat :)
There are vegetarian diets for dogs and cats, for those vegetarians who feel the need to impose their morals on animals that would naturally eat meat.
However, I don't think it's fair to force a cat (a carnivore) to conform to it's owners morals.

Yes .. we in the family are vegetarians and we used to feed our dog with a lot of meat weekly twice.. otherwise he used to live by milk and rice on the otherdays.
Some do, some don't. They do make vegetarian dog food but it's not really the best diet for a dog. Even the owner of the natural pet supply store I go to who carries vegetarian dog food says that even though it says it can be used as the dog's primary diet on the bag/can, it's not a very good diet for them and the only reason she sells it is to be mixed with other things.
It really all depends on how "hard-core" the vegetarian is. Example: Vegans tend to much more strict about eating ANYTHING from animals and so they are more likely to feed a vegetarian diet.
My cousin is a hard core vegan and has a little terrier/poodle mix he rescued from a shelter and he ONLY feeds that poor dog things that are 100% vegan (no meat, no dairy, no honey, no eggs, etc) and that poor dog's skin, coat, and just overall health are just not in the best shape...

Mostly cats but also dogs are carnivore. That means they are meant to eat meat. Humans do not need to eat meat, as is proven by many years of people being vegetarian. So I am vegetarian myself, but I buy food for my cats that contains meat. Besides, these foods contain all the by-products of the meat industry that humans wouldn't eat and would be thrown away. So it is a pity to waste them.
I'm a vegetarian. Ill give my dog one of my moms hot dogs sometimes. :P Dogs technically aren't true carnivores. They don't need meat to survive whereas animals like cats do.
Vegetarian diets are perfectly healthy and sometimes necessary because many dogs are allergic to meat.

Nataly L- What proof do you base that on? No dog is allergic to meat. Dogs ARE true carnivores. Some dogs are allergic to wheat.
Any person who feeds a carnvorous animal a vegetarian/vegan diet is exposing their dog to neglect. Plain and simple. No dog can get the nutrients it requires on a vegan diet, even on a vegetarian diet it's impossible.
