Is it legal for pet shops/stalls to sell kittens in cages?
We recently bought a kitten from a pet stall in a market. The poor little thing was cooped up in a small cage with two other kittens, crammed into a small area with various other animals stacked around it.

We were told he was 8 weeks old, and that he had been de-flead and wormed. However on the way home we found some fleas on him, we now believe his vomiting and diarrhoea is being caused by worms, and after a health check at the vets he is infact closer to 6 weeks old.

I know there is no law against lying about his age and treatment, but surely it isn't legal to sell kittens from cages is such poor conditions?

Is there anything I can do?
The animals should have room to move, as well as be healthy when they go to their new homes. Kittens are also meant to be with their mums until they are eight weeks old.

I'd report it to an animal welfare group, such as the RSPCA, ASPCA or your local Humane Society and they will check it out
Unfortunately it's not illegal. ASPCA and other foundations are working to stop conditions like that and to stop puppy mills and stores that carry puppy mill dogs.
You can support foundations and research other opportunities if you really want to be active.

tell your vet or shelter near you and tell them what you saw and where you got your kitten from hopefully they would help out or they might call animal patrol on them there selves.. tell them where exactly the kittens are as well.. its not good for the kittens to be in that type of situation, all crammed in one small cage and letting them get sick..
I would immediately report it to your local ASPCA or Humane Society
1. Report the market to your local city council
2. Report the market to your local animal protection society

3. Education-Most likely your kitten came from a Kitten farm-the kitten versian of puppy farms. Aka big time liers. Educate other not to buy from markets, or petshops if they see them at the markets or petshops, report them to the local authorities

4. Where i am, it is illegal to sell pups and kittens in the cages at the markets, by the way i'm australian.
