Why is my kitten's skin flaking and dry?
I've recently taken in an abandoned kitten, who was then about 3 weeks old. She's now a bit over a month, and I've noticed that down by her legs and on her stomach, she's has next to no fur. It's basically gone, and her skin is peeling and flaking. There doesn't seem to be any sign of ringworm, which I could be incorrect about. I replaced formula with soft, canned cat food and water about 2 weeks ago or so, and she seemed fine with it. She's chewing, using the litter box and running with ease; Any ideas as to what this might be? I don't see how she could be dehydrated. I was bathing her with Dawn dish soap a week back, for fleas, but she's free of them now and I stopped bathing her. I've only noticed this a day ago. As far as the vet goes, we're tight on money at the moment, and it's rather hard to come up with the money for a checkup. With school starting and such, it's more or less next to impossible right now. Currently, is there anything I can do to help her, and does anyone know just what this may be? I haven't seen any change in behaviour. I will get her to the vet as soon as I possibly can, I rather plan on it being within the next week or so.

Thanks;
It might be possible the dish soap dried her skin out. If you can afford it, go to a pet store and purchase salmon oil to put into her food. The oils and Omega-3s will restore the natural oil to her skin and improve her coat. Also ask to speak to their cat specialist there. Most pet stores have very knowledgeable people working for them. You could even take her in a pet carrier and show them the problem.
