When he wants to cuddle, he climbs my back and rubs his face on mine but when I try to be sweet with him, he scratches me. This kitten can't stand when I leave home. When I come back, he jumps on my should and purrs but like I said, when I try to be sweet, he is mean to me!

Cats are very independent. When they want attention, it's cool. When they don't, they'll whack you. I think your kitty loves you. It's just cats in general. They're interesting and complicated. Have fun with your little guy.

What are you doing when being "sweet"? All cats have different personalities just like people and he may not like you trying to touch him. He might think your going to grab him and pull him off you? Is he scratching you by your eyes? If so then maybe he thinks when you blink that it's something to play with. Just keep him away from your face.

I think your cat is just playing. Try petting him gently when he's sleeping. He'll grow out of it, I'm sure.
I think that the key word here is "he". You are a female, right? He's a male. He is trying to dominate you. When he acts mean, shake a plastic bag at him (like the kind the grocery stores use.) I used to shake a bag at my neutered male (age 11) when he would whine to go outside at night. He didn't like the sound. Maybe your kitten will react that way, too.
