They can live for a while if they are well taken care of. I have seen a cat up to 21 yrs old.

Most cats that are indoors and neutered and vaccinated that have good veterinary care and dental care all their lives can live to their late teens. I know of a 22 year old cat, and the world's oldest cat is in Russian and is 32. Most elderly kitties get kidney disease or cancer. Always feed your kitty the best cat food you can afford, and get it regular veterinary care. Always get your cat neutered or spayed, and if you keep it indoors, it will live a lot longer than a cat who is let outside and has to tangle with other animals and cars, not to mention some people who can be horrible to animals, esp. if they think they're strays.
