Are there any breeds of cats that are better for people with allergies.?
My boyfriend has allergies but I desperately want a cat (huge animal lover and vet tech). I've heard both sides of the hypo allergenic debate, but was just curious if anyone had any personal experience with a certain breed of cat not bothering their allergies? I know the allergy is usually caused from the proteins in the cats saliva, so a hairless breed could be just as bad as one with hair. But just curious what others have found to be the case. Thank for your response.
The answer is no. Long hair or short hair, it doesn't matter. That is not where the allergies come from. it is from the dander
Don't risk the cats life by getting it only to dump it later
Spinx cats have no hair but the dander is still there. Get a kitten and start bathing it, so it will accept baths later on, and then you will be able to control the dander better.
Good luck with finding a kitten or cat
First...

I agree with the answer above me.

seconds...
I know that one of the genders make LESS stuff that causes the allergies. I think its the males? I cant remember but look that up.

third,
allergy shots! if you are getting a cat and your boyfriend lives with you, he needs to want the cat too. There are allergy shots he can get every week or month (i dont know which) that will help him. Also, have a room the cat isn't allowed in if possible. Make it the room he spends the most time in. Or at least keep the kittens toys, water, and food in a different area so it wont necessarily spend TOO much time there.

Brush its coat once a week... I dont know what else to say.

But definately dont get a cat if he cant handle it or doesnt want to compromise and commit too. Kittens are a lot of responsibility. And please please please get a kitten or cat at a shelter. I rescued two kittens (only 3months old) who were in the wild because animal control was going to take them and put them down. It was because of too many cats in shelters. They are the best cats ever, by the way, so sweet.

One more thing with the answer above me again: Bathing is good but because because it will dry out a kitten/cat's skin quickly. Dry skin is no good!

just thought i'd help ^_^
How bad are his allergies? My fiance has been allergic his whole life, but we have 3 cats. When first introducing a new cat in the house he is very sneezy, stuffy, puffy and sometimes has a hard time breathing, but it lets up after the cat is around for a few days. I've read this is common for people with cat allergies, that they can adjust to the animal after a while. If he has more severe symptoms, I really don't know. Good luck finding a cat that works!
