I have two cats but one seems to get bored really quickly. He loves the laser pointer and will chase it for long periods of time. He loves his cat tree. However, everything else is not very interesting. Some of what I have tried:
1.) A stick with feathers and bell at the end. He seems to enjoy it for 2 minutes. Then he gets bored and goes elsewhere. Then 5 minutes later he's back at the toy begging to play. Rinse and Repeat.
2.) I tried throwing food and treats. His mum chases them. He just stands there and looks at me for food.
3.) I tried blowing bubbles at him. They freak him out.
He always stands a little further than arms length and cries constantly. I don't know what he wants.

Get thick, really thick, old socks and put them on your hands. Rub his stomach. Just make sure there thick enough the claws wont go through
Most pet stores have a little "bargain bin" with individual cat toys for 50 cents or less. Gets a handful of different ones and see if he likes any of these. My one cat LOVES the catnip mice that rattle when you shake them, and my other one loves the spongy bouncy balls. They will play with these for hours!! Also, try some home made toys. Crumple up some tin foil, a paper bag, a cardboard box, all of these are incredibly interesting to cats and may entertain him. Is he already fixed?
1) I tie up a plastic bag and throw it around my cats LOVE that. I have a cat that I think was a baseball player in a past life, he always bats at it and i throw it and he bats! it's fun
2) Hairbands
3) I have a long piece of string that my cats like, and i spend countless hours 'swishing' that for them.
4) throw a box or paper bag and the ground. The always curious cat will LOVE that. I sometimes entice them to get in by scratching the back and they jump in it to 'get' me.
5) when we were doing construction we had some plastic in an almost done / put on hold room. They would go in there and chase each other on that thing for hours.
I like Point Blankk's idea too!

we got my cat these little toy balls with like another ball inside of it so it makes noise when you throw it or roll it. My brother sits on one end and i sit across from him..and at first you just roll it back and forth to get your cats attention. And then you throw it in the air, not to high, but not to low, and then your cat will jump and try to catch the ball. (my cat jumps really high) Its cute, hilarious, and my cat loves it! also my cat plays hide and go seek. you just hide behind something and then you stick your head out a few times and make a noise and then your cat will sneak up on you and pat you on the head! its so cute!!!
