im getting a kitten today who is about six weeks old and still drinks milk from her mother. will it cause anxiety to just stop giving her milk? or should i but some type of special milk for her?
You shouldn't get a cat which has not been weaned (stopped eating milk). There are special formulas for kittens that still need milk, but why not wait for the kitten to wean and save the money? The formulas are expensive, and your kitten may get sick, starve, or have other problems from being switched off milk.
You can give her powder formula milk that is sold at pet stores or wal mart.
Since she is too young to leave her mother, buy kitten formula and feed that to her for a few more weeks. Then just water and cat food, preferably, canned cat food and a small amount of dry to munch on.
First of all you shouldn't be getting a kitten that hasn't started eating food yet. Ask the owners to keep the kitten a little longer until it can at least eat soft food. If the people who have the kitten absolutely can not keep the kitten another day, buy some milk replacer and try to get the kitten to drink that. It will have recommendations on how to mix it and all that. Also, buy some soft kitten food (canned preferably) and start offering that to the kitten. At that age, they'll usually start to eat it. Gradually take away the milk.
But, like I said... Try to get the people to keep the kitten until it voluntarily eats food.

The kitten should already be weaned from the mothers milk, the previous owners should have started this. You will need to buy KMR (kitten replacer milk) and also dry kitten food. mix a small amount with the dry food, every day put less milk in and more dry food. Your kittenshouldd be fully on kitten food within two weeks.
