Is the antibiotic Biomox acceptable for cats? My cat was prescribed this medication a few days ago, and I just realized that the bottle and the paper insert and the box all say FOR DOGS ONLY! Is it typical that vets prescribe something "for dogs only" for cats?
Would love to hear from someone in the vet industry about how this is prescribed and the safety of it.

Biomox is just a liquid amoxicillin and it's totally fine for cats to use as well.
Some medications only get their FDA approval for use in dogs, but they can still be used for cats. That type of use is considered off-label use, and in your case it's totally fine.

Personally, I caught my doctors in the wrong so many times that I don't trust them so easily.
With the internet and all, if I spend a month reading up on a particular illness, I end up specialized on it and knowing more than my doctor does.
And vets, I trust them less than doctors.
If it was my cat i'd spend 2 hours (maybe much less) on google reading up what Biomox is and what it does and by the end I'd know enough.

Biomox is amoxicillin suspension, which is frequently prescribed for cats as Clavamox or Amoxi-drops. Our clinic doesn't carry that brand of amoxicillin suspension that I'm aware of, so I don't know more. Give your vet's office a call and tell them your concern, and I'm sure they can provide more information.
