I didn't have a problem all winter but now I'm seeing a lot of young cats hanging around and when they see me they run and hide...in my car. I'm usually leaving too.
I don't mind them coming up to my house, I encourage it actually, but I do not want them doing this. I get so paranoid I'm going to hurt them I have to check all over to make sure they get out before I start my car.
Anything that might work?

get a dog close to your house or put rat poisoning in your car, or take the rats out of your car or food. your car must me dirty somewhere there...
Buy some pet treats so they wont get in your car
we sell some granules at the pet sore i work at called critter ridder. you could shake some of those around where you park. it should help keep them away.
there are ways you can deal with this one way is to go buy a spray spray your car engine with it the smell will repulse them and will try to find another place to hide I think its called off of my yard something like that.Or you could put an alarm system on when they go and hide it will be set off and cats hate loud noises so they will defiantly run from there. Thats all I can think of hope this is helpful.
Well, you could park in the garage...if you have one.
Ha ha, we used to have this problem with chipmunks.
They're probably just a little scared of you and your house, so they go to the closest shelter when you come out. Or, if your car had been running recently, they ran into it because it's warm and dark.
Anyway, aside from using sprays and such on your car, just make a lot of noise when you come to your car, and bang on the hood and such to drive them out. If they feel that it's not a safe place, they won't want to hide there. Then give them incentive to come into your house, like leaving a can of tuna on your porch or some other little treat. If they're scared of your car, they'll want to go somewhere else that's nice!
Hope this helps. But if you can't keep them out of your car, just make sure you bang around and make a lot of noise to scare them out. our cats like to sleep under my car, but as soon as I turn it on they run away. Just make sure they're not actually IN your engine, by banging on the hood a few times.

usually cats are smart enough to get out when you actually enter your vehicle, so it's probably not a big deal. i deal with a lot of strays by my work & they hide in my car all day long. if i ever think they might still be under there when i get in, i either beep the horn or give the car a little shake to make it teeter & spook them off....still haven't lost one yet.
