Okay firstly, I have a 3 year old female who has been desexed. A few days ago I noticed a black cat prowling around in my backyard, AND frontyard. I didnt think much of it though. Yesterday morning I woke up to my cat making a horrible noise, it sound like a loud, long continuous descending "meow" over and over. Of course I was pretty startled so I rushed out of bed to see what was going on. My cat was sitting at the back door, with this black stray cat right on the other side, looking in. It got scared and ran off. Then not long later, it came back, sitting on the back step, right in front of the door. My cat then comes bolting around the corner, and just went HEAD ON straight into the door. The stray got sccared and ran off once again. For the past 48 hours my poor kitty hasn't been the same! What should I do if this stray keeps coming back and distressing my cat?? :(
Do you have sprinklers outside? If you can get some water going that should scare it away. Yelling may work too, at least for a little while. Anything you can do to startle it. If nothing good happens to him at your place eventually he will give up.
Are you sure it's a stray cat? It may be someone's pet. Some people let their cats wander all over to torment other cats and wipe out the bird population.
It isn't fair to your cat to let it hang around. I feed feral cats around me but it doesn't annoy my cats very much. I make sure to schedule one of their meal times with when I put the other food outside. If it really upset them I would have to stop.
Your cat is the priority. If you want to try to help the other cat you can take it to a vet and have it scanned for a microchip to see if you can find owners. You can take him to a shelter. Or you could get him checked out and taken care of and keep him yourself. Obviously your cat isn't happy with him now, she might accept him someday if you kept him, but it's up to you if you want to try that or not.
Do not let your cat out to meet the other cat. It may not be healthy and could spread disease to your cat. They could also fight. Cats don't usually fight to the death, but bites and scratches can do serious damage and frequently get infected.
My parents' neighbor has a cat who comes over and bothers their cats. The oldest has started spraying the door and the other boy makes those horrible noises. It is really frustrating. Sorry you and your kitty are dealing with that.

Well that's difficult. If you call animal control they might capture the stray and put it to sleep, which I personally wouldn't want to see happen. So I would just hope it goes away and if it doesn't maybe cover up the window with a poster so your cat doesn't freak out, until the stray is gone from the neighborhood.
Sorry if this is not that helpful but it's all I can think of.

well that stray outside is probably a male, and it is probably spraying, that is whats making your cat go nuts, that stray is marking its territory too close to your cat's territory, or even on it, so take that stray to the nearest canal. I hope that helps
Adopt the stray cat. Make sure it has no sickness, and treat it nicely. The two cats will start to get along
Do not let your cat out. The cry your cat made was a challenge to fight, not a call to mate. If you let them have contact, it will result in a fight. Your cat is "fixed" so it does not have a drive to mate. But it does still have a drive to defend it's home. If the stray continues to come around, you may have to catch it and turn it in to a shelter. I am usually against that, but to keep your cat safe and happy, you may have no choice. If your cat never goes outside you could also try researching things to repel cats from your yard. If you surround your home with something that cats hate, it may make this stray search for a new area to claim as home. I heard that orange peels work, but I don't know if that is true or not.
Cats are territorial and will make a fuss if a strange cat comes into the yard. Since your cat is a female, the stary may be attarcted to her, whether she is spayed or not. My neighbours's spayed female had to get hormone shots to stop the males cats from congregating in the yard. It is often seasonal and the cat may stop bugging your cat. Ignoe the suggestion that your cat should "make friends". They probably don't want to be friends in the first place, plus strays carry all sorts of diseases.
firstly, the black stray is not stressing your kitty. its just another lonely soul out there on the streets. although your kitty is neutered, that doesn't mean it has loosen its ability to make friends. secondly, you have a friendly kitty. it will take a few days for it to realize that its new found friend (black stray) actually cannot come into the house, then its friendship versus freedom. thirdly, you have 2 choices, choice 1, leave things as it is, and watch them become 'spiritual' friend. they know the existence of each other, but that's about it. choice 2, try to tame the black stray, and adopt it eventually. your house, your cat, your choice :) but please don't alert the animal control unit, otherwise your kitty might lose the only cat friend she has for her entire life, thanks
Call the city council, it's owner needs to be found, and the thing may need to be desexed to curb it's crazy sexual frustration (the most common reason foreign cats wander into my place, I can tell by the characteristic deep "eeyoooooooowwww....wwwwoooooowwww...wow...
Some city councils subsidise cat desexing.
It might be spraying on your cats territory and cramping it's style. But I guess that's something for them to settle together.
FIGHT!
My Bing is a champion fighter with a chunk out of his ear. hehe.

first of all i think you mean "neutered" not "desexed"
secondly, the low descending elongated meow is what feral cats do before they...you know what. Even though your cat has been neutered, she is still an animal and all animals have impulses. The stray cat obviously wants to hang out with your kitty. It's okay. Try letting your cat go outside and let them smell each other.

I feed the strays that come around out of pity. The poor things just want a little food to stay alive. I feel sorry for them. Many are abandoned or got lost and are out there all alone. The next time you see the black cat put yours in a room and close the door. Then quietly go out with some food and see if it's tame.you may help a kitty get back to it's people.
