how fast does a bird bleed to death?

How fast does a bird bleed to death?
my bird has broken many of his feathers and bled but he hasnt died yet. im really confused about that though. About half of times he has broken his feathers i was there and was able to apply clotting gel. The other times though, i am gone and unable to stop the bleeding for him. Everyone says that when a bird breaks its pin feathers or blood feathers that they will bleed to death if immediate action is not taken.
Ive come home to my bird and i would see dried blood under his wing and start panicking or i'll see it near his vent. after looking at him though he seems perfectly fine. Is he abnormal or something?
i suggest next time you get a pet you learn more about the pet, and learn how to take better care of it... no offence

but i mean really if it's happened several other times while you're home, and what not... why would you let it keep happening?
They can bleed to death very quickly. It sounds like your bird has not broken a feather badly enough to have a serious loss of blood while you weren't there, and fortunately you were there enough times to apply the clotting agent. Check the toys in the cage to make sure he isn't getting hung up in any of them and getting himself injured.
bird owner 20+yrs.
Birds have very little blood and bleed to death quickly.

It is very odd that your bird keeps breaking his feathers, how is this happening? is he hitting them on the cage bars or a toy? make sure there is nothing in his cage that he can get caught on.

You have to be careful with these things because next time you might not get home in time to apply the clotting agent.

If this bleeding continues I suggest a simple check up at an experience avian veternarian

Best of luck, hope i helped :)
I think you need to give your bird to someone who doesn't come home daily finding his bird bleeding. I am sorry something is wrong here. May the big guy upstairs take your bird to his home.
Just an old bird brain of 42 years!
A bird can bleed to death relatvely quickly. You don't mention the kind of bird, or the behavior that may be causing this.

I have a Goffins Cockatoo that is a plucker. The vet has her on anti biotics for infection and haldol to stop the neurotic behavior. But we know why she is doing this, when it happens, how it happens, everything ... but is your bird breaking them? or is you bird destroying and chewing on them on purpose? Is the cage too small? Is he hitting his wing and or tail feathers on the sides when he tries to move about?...

I suggest you get with somone close to you that knows birds, if you can't find or afford an avian vet, and see if they can come over and see if they can help you rectify the situation.

You also might want to re-read your question, because it almost appears to me that you are waiting for and or wanting him to die... you're confused because he isn't dead yet... ??
