Is it bad to just start handling my baby budgie?
I just got him and he's fairly small. I take him out and just like hold him. He gets a little bitey sometimes and tries to fly away, cause he's a bit scared. Should I just continue handling him and maybe just chat to him in a soothing voice until he gets used to me? Will he get used to me? How often should I do this?
It sounds like you're doing the right thing to me. You want your budgie to get used to you handling it and if you go about it in a gentle and calm way then you can't be doing any harm. The best way to tame your budgie is to handle him as often as possible. Carry him around the house with you as you go about your day, have him sit with you quietly as you watch tv, etc. That way he'll become very adjusted to your household!
Good luck.
Yes handle him as much as you can! You have to remember that parrots are basically still wild animals and you have to handle and interact with them as much as you can. Just remember that once they get tame they can revert back to their wild nature if you stop handling them as much. Make a routine for you and your budgie to have bonding time and stick to it!
You just need to chat to him in a soothing voice and handle him. But you should wear gloves as he will bite you.
He will slowly get use to you but you need to give him a lot of love and care.
I own a budgie myself
