We found a baby bird in my backyard? What now?
It's a robin, not a tiny baby, but it's eyes are open, it clicks it's beak, can hop still has baby fluff and cannot fly. I live near milw. WI and we've called several places and got no help. It doesnt look hurt just vulnreble. My mom tried feeding it bread but it wouldnt eat it. We'll probly take it to the humane society (maybe) but how else can we help? Or will the mom come back? we havent seen the mom for about 2 hours
well two options:
1- if you have touched it mom won't come back. and if it does it will kill it.
2- if you havent touched it mom won't come back if you are around/watching.
either way: if you want to, call the wildlife center in your area. the humane society won't be as helpful as the wildlife division. they will nurse it back to health and let it free when it can take care of itself.
Please leave it alone. Do not handle or feed the bird - especially bread. You shouldn't even be in the area. Being too close to the chick will prevent the parents from coming near. They stay away to protect the babies. Your activity can also draw the attention of predators.

Baby birds leave the nest (fledge) before they can fly. If the bird can hop - it's a fledgling and nothing is wrong. It's normal to find them on the ground - they are supposed to be there. They stay on the ground for days before becoming fully flighted. All you need to do is stay far away, leave them alone and keep your pets indoors. Robins share parenting duties, and they will continue to feed the fledglings. They don't need help.
It won't eat anything hard yet, because it isn't used to it.
If you want to feed it, there is some kind of powder you mix with warm(NOT HOT!) water and then you can feed it with a syringe. (I think it's called formula or something like that)
Try to keep the bird warm and watch out if you see the mother.
