My Parakeet just passed away, what went wrong?
Hi,
I've had this parakeet for about 6-7 years, she showed no sign of struggle, pain, or anything of that sort, yesterday morning she was chirping eating and grooming her mate. I left for about an hour and came back to find her dead.

What went wrong? The couple have been together 6-7 years. The male is still alive and seems to be doing well.

There are no marks or blood or any sign of violence. What exactly went wrong? Out of my grief I have already buried the bird under my tree in the front yard... Was it because of old age? I also noticed something odd "stuck" in her "vent"(where the poop comes out lol) It was a very very dark red, almost black.

Thanks for any advice.
She might have been egg bound. Many female parakeets become egg bound due to lack of calcium and chronic egg laying. Or she might have had a cloanal prolapse, which can be due to laying too many eggs or other complications. If it was a prolapse, the bird can't poop so the toxins build up in the parakeet's system and will kill it within a few days. I've had parakeets with both problems.

Parakeets rarely die of old age. There is always some sort of disease or accident involved with any parakeet dying. Parakeets often die suddenly without any signs of illness. They are good at hiding any illness. I'm sorry to hear about your losing your parakeet. It must have been a shock.
Owned parakeets for 15 years
Take very good care what you feed the other with, may it be something in the diet that causes them damage after longer time. Bet ask a vet about what they should eat or not.
It sounds like there was blood, dried and blocking the vent. So it allowed impaction of the cloaca and killed her.
yeah i think it was old age too i mean did she have a metical conditon and if soo then maybe thats why
