My 4 children found a baby turkey in our yard a little while ago and are petrified for it! None of our nearest neighbors say that it belongs to any of them, one thought it might be a wild turkey. Our feed store is closed until Monday, and we live in a tiny town so that is my only option. Does anyone have any idea what I could feed it? We have it in the house in a card board box near a lamp for heat, since it is really cold here, is that ok? Thanks in advance!
It's ok. If it is cool it will huddle under the heat and if warm it will be away from the heat. Feed it dry corn meal and dry oat meal out of the box and water in a separate dish. Put a few small stones with the food as it will need grits in the gizzard to grind up the food. A wild bird seed mix is ok also till you get the turkey poult feed. If large enough it will like whole corn but if I had it I would force feed it 5 stones the size of a pea to be sure it could grind the corn.
Wen you are at the feed store on monday get turkey food and some fine grit. Oatmeal and cornmeal should be fine until then. They have water dishes there too.
