My cockatiel has some feathers covered in a skin, I guess they are pin feathers. It makes him look like he got grass growing out of his head. I tried restraining him so I could roll it off but he cries and stresses out. Any tips or info? And no my bird is not food motivated so treats don't work.
my bird sit in my lap and lets break the hard white part off but if you hit the blood part the bird will scream. i say leave them alone if your bird doesnt ask for help. mine wants it when she climbs into mylap and tucks her down to show the pins she cant reach
Leave it alone. This is a normal part of the molting process. Molting is stressful, and you are making it worse. The sheaths will break away by themselves. Your bird does not want or need any help.
A bath or spray bath will soften the sheaths and help them open. If the bird doesn't want you to to preen him leave him alone. Molting is stressful enough by itself.
Even I am starting to hate you, imagine your bird! Are you thinking straight? Do you really think you are helping out your pet? Sorry, but this question is simply stupid.
