can i feed chickens and hens anything besdies their food? like bread or any veggies or scraps? and also is it okay to feed roosters the laying food for hens. thanks! new to this
Absolutey! It's a great idea and you probably should! Chickens love fruit, veggies, grains, table scraps, bread, etc. They'll eat just about anything once they discover it is food.
Roosters can eat food developed for laying hens. For the most part, their general dietary requirements are the same. (Except for that hens use the extra calcium and minerals in the food to add to the eggs the lay).

depends ,free range they can mostly feed themselves ,but in a coop or pen they won't be able to find enough scratch.you can feed table scraps, vegetables ,meat, salad trimmings, etc.hen feed might have extra calcium for egg laying ,but roosters don't need extra calcium ,and some might be harmed by too much.
you can feed ur hens/roosters grapes, lettuce, tomatoes, brocilli, cereal that doesn't hav any sugar (like cheerios), ext. My hens LOVE cheerios and raisins the most. But I don't have a rooster and im not aloud (close neighbors) so i cant answer the 2nd question. Sorry!
my 5 chickens (soon to be 8)
